Hello
I am Laura Cannon and thank you for considering The Pheasant for your forthcoming stay in the Ironbridge Gorge. I appreciate that today more than ever, it is lovely to be considered on where you spend your hard earned money and how ethical the business is, you choose to spend your money with. Here is a little more about my story. I am a dog lover, pianist, animal rescuer and passionate photographer when I have the time.
My Story
I trained as an actor in Birmingham Theatre School and later East 15 Acting school. I then toured the UK for a few years with theatre companies and later secured a contract with shopping channels presenting. This led into the wine industry where I was trained as a wine taster to present a wine channel and toured several countries presenting wines, explaining all about the unique terroir of the wine makers sites and selling wines in the UK. At the age of 30, I decided to secure a future more stable than entertainment and moved home to Ironbridge, purchased my first buy to let which I laboured for my dad on, who kindly shared his knowledge and energy for my kickstart into the building industry. This was a huge difference to presenting but I had found a new passion. I re-trained as an electrician, worked on local radio for 3 years starting my morning at 3.30am as the breakfast show Co-Host, then at 10.30 leaving to start my renovation of my house then finishing with night school for electrics three nights a week. I purchased the Pheasant in 2010 which was a dilapidated building and restored her to her former days of housing those travelling through the village. It has been a pleasure to host so many fabulous guests throughout the years. We try to be affordable, practical and offer flashes of luxury, which is why you will find many of our units are studio's and apartments allow for basic meal preparation; an easy way to manage a takeout in your space and offers options for those living a healthier lifestyle. This was a huge bug bear for me when touring for years with the theatre.
I design the spaces for a practical stay and always listen to my guests. Many things have been tried and tested over the years, and we are always improving.
I employ local people, design with a consideration for reducing our carbon footprint where possible and love chatting to my guests. I hope to see you around with the dogs enjoying your visit to our little villages.
